God is still writing your story-even in the waiting

If we were sitting together, I’d ask you about your deepest desires, your wildest dreams, and the struggles that keep you up at night.

Maybe, like me, you feel like you keep starting over—taking five steps forward, then ten steps back. You've had moments of doubt, lost hope, and yet somehow, you still show up. Even when it's messy. Even when it's slow. Even when the cycle repeats itself more than you'd like to admit.

I came across a chart recently on Instagram about consistency. One version showed every day looking the same, with the same level of effort—something I used to think consistency should look like. The other showed an ebb and flow of effort, with each day looking different. That second version? That’s real consistency: showing up in whatever way you can.

Lately, I’ve been studying the stories of Noah and Abraham, and I’ve found so much comfort there. Their stories of faith, uncertainty, and waiting have appeared in different books I’ve read over the last four to five years, each time speaking to me in a new way.

The story of Abraham stands out for two reasons. First, the sheer impossibility of being promised a child at his and Sarah’s age -how uncertain must have that felt? Second, the incredible faith, courage and trust Abraham showed when he brought his son, Isaac, the very child they had waited so long for, up the mountain to be sacrificed. I can only imagine the questions he must have wrestled with.

In Genesis 15, we clearly see Abraham’s very human doubts and discouragement. He questioned God’s promises not because he lacked belief entirely, but because the reality around him felt so at odds with the hope he was asked to carry. Yet even in that place of doubt, God met Abraham with a reminder of His faithfulness—inviting Abraham to lift his eyes higher, beyond his present circumstances, to the bigger picture of God's covenant love. It reminds me that I can come to the Lord, honest and raw, even in my doubts and questioning, because He is a God big enough to hold it all.

I highly recommend the book, How to Quiet a Hurricane, as it beautifully explores the seemingly small details of how God invited Abraham into a covenant promise and why we can take the Lord at his Word -how that same promise ultimately points to the gospel, even in the midst of our doubts and uncertainty.

God connected the dots of history and sent Jesus to uphold Abraham’s side of the covenant so he could pour out his blessing on those who don’t deserve it.

No matter the level of effort you bring each day, you're still showing up. You're still being consistent.
You're still being faithful.
And He’s writing something good, even now.
